Clean up screenshots on iPhone

Last updated: . Menu names can differ slightly between iOS versions.

In short: All screenshots are in the Photos app under Media Types → Screenshots, where you select many at once by tapping Select and dragging your finger across them. New screenshots can be discarded right in the preview, before they reach your library.

A boarding pass, a recipe, a code, a map: screenshots are quick to take. This is how to find them and keep new ones from piling up.

1. All screenshots in one place

The Photos app collects them under Media Types → Screenshots.

  1. Open the album and tap Select.
  2. Tap the first screenshot and drag your finger across the others to select many at once.
  3. Tap the trash icon and confirm.

They then stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days.

2. Keep the text, not the picture

Many screenshots only hold one piece of information: an address, a code, an order number. With Live Text you can select the text in the screenshot and copy it into a note. After that the picture can go.

3. Discard new screenshots right away

After you take a screenshot, iOS shows a preview. Tap it to mark up or share the screenshot, then discard it there, so it never ends up in your library.
